In this piece, Blair is represented by many things, mainly the Eagle. The Eagle symbolizes wisdom, vision, strength of character, one who takes command of his actions and his eagerness to fly – literally.
The Eagle’s head is held high to show his self-respect and confidence (feigned or not).
His head is partially encompassed by the Ensō – Japanese for ‘circle’ or ‘circular form’. One can choose to have it represent nothing or a form that embraces everything within it – the epitome of a Zen state of mind; and Zen Blair can be when he chooses. The Enso also represents the solace he finds in yoga.
Blair’s active mind is shown by the segmented greens in the back of the Eagle’s head. The green comes through to his mouth as he typically tells you what he thinks.
The Deer in his wing symbolizes his sense of adventure. Blair is a seeker… or a runner.
The Horse represents his biker side. The open road. FREEDOM.
The Owl represents the fire in his belly. Although mostly controlled, this fury is released once in a while. Conversely, the Owl also represents his wisdom in staying calm and his aptitude for mentorship.
The stylized Wood Duck in his chest represents his sense of humour. Blair makes the world a funnier place.
The ‘sun’ under his wing symbolized Blair’s duality. He has a strong connection with the different versions of himself and this is something that he keeps very close. The lines in the outer ring around the sun give the impression of the roman numerals on an old sundial / clock. The future is a good thing. “Make the most of your time” he once told me.
There are a lot of designs in the piece that are in twos. This represents Blair’s children.
